Friday's Mayfield vs. Santa Teresa high school football game cancelled due to lightning

LAS CRUCES – Friday's non-district high school football game between Mayfield and Santa Teresa has been called due to weather.

The first 30-minute lightning delay occurred at 6:30 p.m. — a half hour before the scheduled kickoff time — and Las Cruces Public School District officials determined that a final decision would be made at 8:30 p.m.

The decision to cancel the matchup was made at 8:36 p.m. A makeup date could be announced next week.

Mayfield's next scheduled game is Friday against Organ Mountain at 7 p.m.; Santa Teresa hosts Lovington on Friday at 7 p.m.

In other Week 2 games, El Paso Americas beat Las Cruces 44-19 on Thursday at the Field of Dreams. The Bulldawgs dropped to 0-2 on the season. Gadsden beat El Paso High 21-14 on the road on Thursday to improve to 2-0 on the season.
