For a freshman, Crockett basketball's Sadie Peyton found a quick spot on varsity

All about Sadie: Savoring spring and the bright lights of Broadway

What is your favorite season of the year?

My favorite season of the year is spring, hands down, because everything is in bloom and the weather is between the cold of winter and the heat of summer. That and my family always goes to the beach in Port A on spring break.

Sadie Peyton made the varsity basketball roster this season as a freshman. Her favorite memory of the year was a team dinner/birthday party to start the season: players only, no coaches, no parents.

What has been your favorite vacation?

I went to New York City with my school theater group last year. We got to visit the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square and see two Broadway shows. It was truly a great experience and the best part of all was just being with my friends throughout the whole thing.

Tell something about you that most people don't know.

Before I go to bed, I will turn on any random cartoon that I normally wouldn’t watch until I fall asleep. Most of the time it’s something from Netflix or Disney+ like "Animaniacs" or "Bluey."

What do you think you'll be doing when you're 25?

When I am 25, I hope to be out of college and working as a nurse in Austin.

Bonding over a team dinner, birthday bash

What has been your favorite basketball memory at Crockett?

At the beginning of the season, we had a team dinner for our point guard Aubry’s birthday. It was just us girls, no coaches and no parents. It was really fun getting to know everyone better, just talking about anything and everything.

Do you have any pregame rituals?

Before a game I have a specific 10-minute stretch/warm-up routine I have to do. I feel that even if I miss one stretch, I won’t feel prepared enough to do my best.

Has basketball taught you any lessons you apply to daily life?

I think athletics as a whole has taught me a lot about dealing with the ups and downs of life as it comes at me and how the only thing at the end of the day I can really control is my effort and attitude.

When you were growing up, was basketball your only game or did you try others?

I actually played softball year-round for travel teams. Once I got to middle school, volleyball and basketball worked their way into my schedule as well. This year was my first year of high school and I was so happy when I made the varsity team for all three.

Dream dinner: Luke Combs sings for grandpa Poppy

If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

My grandpa Poppy who passed away before I was born, Sha'carri Richardson, Rihanna and Luke Combs.

Why Luke Combs?

Growing up, I listened to his music a lot and whenever my family and I would go on vacations; he was always a voice we would hear in the background. His music reminds me of all the fun memories I’ve made from our family road trips and vacations.
