Southern Miss football RB Frank Gore Jr. invited to NFL scouting combine

Southern Miss football's star running back Frank Gore Jr. will be showcasing his skill set in one of the NFL draft's prime evaluations.

Gore has been invited to the 2024 NFL scouting combine, according to a program announcement Monday afternoon.

He was Southern Miss' engine for four seasons and has the third-most career rushing yards (4,022) in school history. He set an FBS record for most rushing yards in a bowl game with 329 against Rice in the 2022 LendingTree Bowl.

Gore declared for the NFL draft following the 2023 season.

The 2024 scouting combine will be held Feb. 29 to March 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Running backs are scheduled to participate at noon on March 2, with sessions covered by NFL Network.

It marks the second year in a row that a Golden Eagles player will participate in the NFL combine. Wide receiver Jason Brownlee signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.

Southern Miss posted a 3-minute video on its social media pages Monday evening where Gore offered a heartfelt farewell to the program and the fan base.

"Forever and forever, to the top," he said.

Gore gearing up for Shrine Bowl

Gore is currently in Texas preparing for the East-West Shrine Bowl in Dallas.

Practices began during the weekend and will continue through Tuesday. The game will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday (NFL Network) at Ford Center, the Dallas Cowboys' practice facility.

Gore is on the West team.
