France women's national team airs stunning ad for World Cup that's going viral
The 2023 World Cup kicks off this week, and to generate excitement for this year's tournament, the France Women's National Team launched an eye catching commercial that has now gone viral around the world.
In partnership with the France Men's National Team and Project Orange, the ad begins with some spectacular plays from the men's squad, including stars like Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud. While it looks like what you'd expect to see from the 2018 World Cup champions and 2022 World Cup runner-ups, a message appears on the screen to deliver a twist.
"Only Les Bleus can give us these emotions. But that's not them you've just seen."
France Women's National Team makes plays, not men
After the message pops up, the commercial reveals visual effects were used to make it appear as if it were the men's team performing all the amazing plays, when it really was members of the women's team making them. So what appeared to be Griezmann was actually Sakina Karchaoui and what looked like Mbappé was Estelle Cascarino, and the commercial shows other women players making all the plays.
The final message appears and changes the spelling of Les Bleus to Les Bleues, in reference to the women's team.
The French team will be returning to this year's World Cup after appearing in the quarterfinals in 2019. Its best finish came in 2011 when the team finished in fourth place.
