Four-star Edwin Spillman has Tennessee football, Georgia, Ohio State among top schools

Lipscomb Academy's four-star linebacker Edwin Spillman narrowed the list of possible landing spots to six schools on April 6. Now the Mustangs star is now down to four — Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State and Georgia.

Spillman's top six included Oklahoma and UAB but he's altered that to sync with the schools he'll take official visits to in June. He's scheduled to visit Florida State (June 2-4), Ohio State (June 9-11), Tennessee (June 16-18) and will finish with Georgia (June 23-25).

Spillman said he'll make a final decision later this summer.

"I'm looking forward to going to visit all of those programs," he said, after participating in Lipscomb Academy's college showcase Friday at the school. "They're all great and have built great football players and that's what I'm trying to become, a great football player."

Spillman is among several Lipscomb Academy players who have received considerable college interest and practiced in front of college coaches Friday, as the Mustangs wrapped spring football. Ohio State, UT and Georgia were at the showcase along with Vanderbilt, Clemson, LSU and Colorado.

Spillman is ranked as the No. 4 prospect in Tennessee for the Class of 2024, and No. 22 linebacker in the nation, according to 247sports Composite. He has over 34 offers, including Vanderbilt, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon and Auburn. But the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Spillman doesn't want to drag out a decision into the season.

"I don't have a specific date of when I'll announce it but it'll be before the summer ends," Spillman said. "I'll see how the visits go and talk with my family and we'll take it from there."

Tennessee was expected to be among Spillman's core schools. His older brother Nate is three-star senior wide receiver at Lipscomb Academy who signed with Tennessee in December. And one of Spillman's closest friends is Kaleb Beasley, another four-star athlete from the 2024 class, who committed to UT last October.

"I've built great relationships with the coaches (at Tennessee) over the past couple of years," Edwin Spillman said. "But I've also built some great ones with all the other coaches who I'll visit (in June). So I'm keeping an open mind and we'll have to see."

Spillman helped Lipscomb Academy capture its second straight Division II-AA state title in December and finished with 129 total tackles, 14.5 for loss and two interceptions.
