Four Shreveport area baseball teams fall in LHSAA quarterfinal contests; Calvary eliminated

Friday was a tough day for Northwest Louisiana baseball teams competing in the LHSAA playoffs.

North DeSoto, Byrd, Northwood and Calvary all lost LHSAA quarterfinal contests.

The Cavaliers (27-12) lost twice Friday night on the road at Assumption going down 5-2 in the opener and 3-0 in the night cap. Calvary managed just four hits in the first game and three in the second. Judson Funderburk had two hits in the first game and Cade Bedgood had two in the second contest.

North DeSoto was run-ruled 10-0 in the Griffins’ Non-Select Division II contest. Senior Sam Odom collected the only hit for the Griffins. The Griffins will play game two at noon Saturday with a possible 3:30 p.m. game three.

Byrd played tough on the road against Jesuit, but fell 3-1 to the Blue Jays. Tyler Nichols and KD Harris went 2 for 3 apiece in the contest, but the Jackets managed just six hits. Byrd will play Saturday at noon with the if necessary game at 3 p.m.

Northwood jumped out to a 2-0 lead against Rummel, but it didn’t last long. Rummel’s Lenny Cline drilled a two-run home run to tie it in the third and the visitors ran away with a 12-4 victory in the Select Division I contest. Game two is at noon Saturday with a possible 3 p.m. contest.

Logansport advanced to the Non-Select Division IV semifinals Wednesday with a 9-6 win over Delcambre. The Tigers play DeQuincy at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Sulphur’s McMurtry Park.

Glenbrook will play in the Select Division V semifinals after topping Riverside 5-0 on Thursday. Glenbrook plays Ascension Catholic at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sulphur.
