Four Longhorns projected in second round of latest 2024 NFL mock draft

Texas should be well represented throughout the first few rounds of the 2024 NFL draft.

NFL draft analyst Luke Easterling of Sports Illustrated recently released his updated three-round mock draft. While no Texas players were selected in the first round in this particular mock, five Longhorns were selected between rounds two and three.

Four Texas players were taken off the board in the second round, while one Longhorn was projected in the fifth round. There’s still a few months left for players to climb draft boards, but this projection is a clear display of player development under Steve Sarkisian at Texas.

Here’s a look at the five Texas players selected in Easterling’s three-round mock draft.

No. 35 - Arizona Cardinals: WR Adonai Mitchell

Ended the 2023 season with 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 15.1 yards per reception and continues to climb NFL draft boards. Although he has yet to officially declare for the 2024 NFL draft, Mitchell could end up being Texas’ highest draft pick.

Sweat took home the Outland Trophy in 2023, awarded annually to the nation’s best college interior lineman. He played a crucial role in Texas’ success this season and should be selected within the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL draft.

It’s unclear if tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders will declare for the 2024 NFL draft or choose to return to Texas for another season. If he does declare, he is currently the No. 2 tight end on Mel Kiper’s Big Board.

No. 82 - Pittsburgh Steelers: DL Byron Murphy

Defensive tackle Byron Murphy is likely to declare for the 2024 NFL draft in the next week or so. He was a dominant force alongside T’Vondre Sweat this season and was one of the highest rated defensive tackles in all of college football per PFF. In this particular mock draft, Murphy is taken off the board in the third round.
