FormerUConnwomen's basketball star Katie Lou Samuelson announces birth of daughter Aliya

Aug. 8—"Welcome to the world Baby Girl," Devin Cannady captioned the post of the couple's newborn. He also added the scripture Jeremiah 29:11 to the caption: "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord. 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"

"Congratulations!" wrote Dorka Juhász.

"Love her already!" said Napheesa Collier, who is a mother to 1-year-old daughter Mila.

"Congratulations She is beautiful!" commented Kia Nurse.

Samuelson and Cannady got married in April after announcing the news of their pregnancy in February. The two previously announced their engagement in February 2022.

The former Husky is sitting out the 2023 WNBA season due to her pregnancy and caring for her daughter. She most recently joined fellow former Husky and UConn assistant coach Shea Ralph's staff at Vanderbilt as a Director of Player Development in January.

Samuelson becomes the sixth former Husky to welcome a newborn within the past two years following Maya Moore (February 2022), Morgan Valley (July 2022), Collier (May 2022), Diana Taurasi (October 2021) and Breanna Stewart (August 2021). Stewart is expecting her second child with wife Marta Xargay in October.
