Former Wisconsin basketball star turned radio host Ben Brust shows up to Packers training camp with an Aaron Rodgers Jets jersey

You want a way to stand out at a Green Bay Packers training camp practice or game this season?

Wear an Aaron Rodgers jersey.

And no, not his No. 12 Packers jersey that was always the most popular around Lambeau Field, Ray Nitschke Field and the Green Bay area over the last 15 years. You wear his new No. 8 New York Jets jersey.

That's what former University of Wisconsin basketball player Ben Brust did Wednesday during the Packers' joint practice with the New England Patriots.

It, of course, got plenty of attention from fans decked out in their Packers green and gold.

Brust, who's a radio host with ESPN Wisconsin, captured his experience on his employer's social media channels. As he made his way to the stands, a chorus of boos could be heard.

And his attempt at getting an autograph from Packers coach Matt LaFleur after practice was also an interesting experience, even if it was mostly done for the camera and to get a rise.

As LaFleur signed autographs and took pictures with Packers fans, it appeared as if the coach might give Brust the cold shoulder.

"Going to see everybody but me," Brust can be heard saying.

But LaFleur eventually turned toward Brust and the basketball player turned radio host told the coach where to sign it. Right on the No. 8 on the front of the jersey. That generated some laughs from the crowd gathered and a woman saying, "Oh, don't do that."

Brust also apparently hung his jersey outside a home for passersby to see ahead of practice.

"I just wanted to show everyone who’s going to be walking by — Patriots players, potential Packer players — this guy had 18 years at this organization," Brust said in a video posted to ESPN Milwaukee's X account, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "I think paying homage to somebody that did as much as he did for the organization is a good thing."

His co-host, Greg Scalzo, said that when LaFleur saw the jersey as he walked out for practice, he yelled, "Nobody wants to see that!"

"He was not happy," Scalzo claimed.

Brust told the cameras, referencing LaFleur: "You should be praising that jersey. You have the best record three straight seasons because of this guy."

Who is Ben Brust?

Brust played for the Wisconsin Badgers from 2010 to 2014, and was a starter his final two seasons.

He averaged 12.8 points per game his senior season, a year in which the Badgers advanced to the Final Four.

Brust left UW with the most three-pointers in Wisconsin history and now ranks fourth. Brust's 1,048 points ranks 34th in school history.

His 96 three-pointers his senior year and 79 his junior year are ranked second and fourth in program history, respectively.

Brust has worked for ESPN Milwaukee the last several years and also has served as the Milwaukee Bucks radio color analyst for home games in a recent season. He also previously worked for the Big Ten Network.
