Oklahoma may have just emerged as a potential landing spot for former Texas quarterback Casey Thompson.

On Monday, Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams announced via Twitter that he will be entering the NCAA transfer portal. There is still a chance that Williams could return to Norman, but it doesn’t feel likely once he explores his options.

Nearly every Power Five program will compete for his services, as Williams will likely be the most sought after player to ever enter the transfer portal. He has a minimum of two years of eligibility remaining with Heisman-level expectations.

Where do the Sooners look for their next quarterback? Spencer Rattler has departed to South Carolina, and with the likelihood of Williams transferring out of the program, Oklahoma will need to look to the transfer portal for an immediate contributor at the position.

There’s a chance Oklahoma could roll the dice with true freshman Nick Evers next season, but experience and depth will still be needed. Shortly after the news broke of Williams’ decision to enter the portal, Casey Thompson shared an Instagram story.

It’s obviously a cryptic message that could be digested in a variety of ways, but Thompson has many ties to Oklahoma. His father, Charles Thompson, is a former Oklahoma quarterback (1987-89).

Thompson also grew up in Newcastle, Oklahoma, prior to enrolling at Texas.

Shortly after Texas landed five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers via the transfer portal, Thompson decided to look elsewhere for immediate playing time. Nebraska had emerged as the favorite landing spot for the former Texas quarterback, but it looks like they’ll have to fend off the Sooners now.
