Former Sooners RB Joe Mixon named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

At the expense of fantasy football teams everywhere, former Oklahoma Sooners running back Joe Mixon’s big day earned him AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Mixon scored five touchdowns, four rushing and one receiving, in the Cincinnati Bengals victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Mixon entered Sunday’s game without a 100-yard rushing performance this sesons. It had been a frustrating season for both him and the Bengals. He smashed that 100-yard mark and finished the afternoon with 153 yards on the ground on 22 carries. He also had 58 receiving yards on four receptions.

Mixon’s five total touchdowns on Sunday were a franchise record.

Joe Mixon has 585 yards rushing on the season for the Bengals and six rushing touchdowns. He’s also added 38 receptions for 272 yards and two touchdowns on the year. He’s 14th in the NFL in rushing and 19th in runs of 10 yards or more this season.

Mixon has been the bell-cow runner for the Bengals this year, with 120 more attempts on the season than Samaje Perine. Perine though, is averaging 5.3 yards per carry to Mixon’s 3.9 on the season.

With injuries at several positions, the Bengals have had a difficult time finding their footing in 2022. At 5-4, Cincinnati is in second place in the AFC North, one game behind the 6-3 Baltimore Ravens.
