Former Ravens and Seahawks running back Alex Collins killed in Florida motorcycle crash at age 28

Alex Collins, who played five NFL seasons for the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks, was killed in a motorcycle crash over the weekend. He was 28 years old.

The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. Sunday night when Collins crashed into an SUV in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff, Collins collided with the vehicle as it was making a left-hand turn and crashed through the rear passenger side window into the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was cooperative with investigators, the sheriff’s office said.

Collins starred at the University of Arkansas, where he rushed for 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons.

He was drafted by the Seahawks in 2016. He signed with the Ravens the following year and rushed for a career-high 973 yards and six touchdowns, which he celebrated by dancing an Irish jig in the end zone.

“With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins,” the Ravens said in a statement. “Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex always be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life.”

He left the Ravens after the 2018 season and returned to the Seahawks for two more seasons, leaving the NFL in 2021. He played last season in the minor league USFL for the Memphis Showboats.

“The Seahawks family along with the 12s are so saddened to hear of Alex’s passing. Alex’s infectious smile and classic river dance skills will forever be missed. Alex would light up a room and was beloved by our entire building,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said in a statement.
