Former NFL player, UFC fighter Greg Hardy set for professional boxing debut
MMA is on hold, but Greg Hardy fights on.
A former NFL and UFC athlete, Hardy will make his professional boxing debut Oct. 8 for Black Sheep Boxing promotions in Delray Beach, Fla. The opponent and number of rounds have not been announced at this time.
Hardy, 33, is a former NFL standout who entered the world of mixed martial arts in 2017. After a 3-0 tenure as an amateur, Hardy turned professional on the inaugural episode of Dana White’s Contender Series, Season 2. He defeated fellow NFL alum Austen Lane via TKO in 57 seconds and earned himself a UFC developmental contract.
Less than two months later, he returned to DWCS and defeated Tebaris Gordon via TKO in 17 seconds. Following one more professional win, under the Xtreme Fight Night banner, Hardy signed a UFC contract. Hardy’s UFC signing was met with criticism due to past accusations of domestic violence.
After some initial success with a 4-2 start to his UFC tenure, Hardy struggled to succeed with an increased level of opposition. The UFC elected not to re-sign Hardy following his TKO loss to Serghei Spivac on March 5. The defeat was his third in a row via first-round TKO. He departed the UFC with a 4-5 promotional record.
