Worthington Christian announced Monday that Jeff Hartings has resigned as football coach after seven seasons in which he won 46 games and two league championships.

Hartings, a two-time All-American offensive lineman at Penn State who played 11 NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers, went 46-28 at Worthington Christian. The Warriors made the playoffs for the first time in 2019 and have qualified every year since, also winning MSL-Cardinal titles in 2019 and 2022.

Worthington Christian was 4-7 this season, playing an independent schedule.

“After much prayer and contemplation, I have decided that it is in the best interests of my family and me to resign as the head football coach at Worthington Christian,” Hartings told his team, according to a press release from the school.

Hartings’ teams won at least seven games four times, including eight-win seasons in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

In the release, athletic director Tony Earp credited Hartings for helping strengthen the program down to the youth level.

“Coach Hartings has brought a Christ-centered culture to the football program that believes in hard work in the pursuit of excellence both on and off the field,” Earp said. “Those will be the building blocks for the program’s success moving forward.”

Hartings becomes the third area football coach to step down this offseason, following Olentangy Orange’s Zebb Schroeder and Westerville Central’s Ed Miley.
