Former Illini and area standouts in NFL: Week 11

Nov. 22—Tommy DeVito delivered in his second NFL start for the New York Giants, while Kerby Joseph (Lions) and Sydney Brown (Eagles) saw their teams continue their winning ways near the top of the NFC. N-G sports staffer Joe Vozzelli has an update on each former Illini and one former area high school standout ahead of Week 12 of the NFL season:

Tony Adams

New York Jets

Looking back:

* Adams started at free safety for New York and finished with four tackles on 33 defensive snaps before sustaining what appeared to be a finger injury in the first half of the Jets' 32-6 road loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

What's next:

* The Jets (4-6) will play the first-ever Black Friday NFL game with the Dolphins (7-3) as kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Friday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Nick Allegretti

Kansas City Chiefs

Looking back:

* Allegretti played three snaps on special teams in Monday night's 21-17 home loss by the Chiefs to the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl LVII rematch.

What's next:

* Kansas City (7-3) will travel to Las Vegas to face the AFC West rival Raiders (5-6) at 3:25 p.m. on Sunday.

Chase Brown

Cincinnati Bengals

Looking back:

* The Bengals had the weekend off after a 34-20 road loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday night.

What's next:

* Cincinnati designated the rookie running back to return from injured reserve Monday. The move opens Brown's 21-day practice window after the fifth-round pick was sent to IR on Oct. 28 with an hamstring injury. The Bengals (5-5) will next host the Steelers (6-4) at noon on Sunday at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.

Philadelphia Eagles

Looking back:

* The rookie defensive back produced three solo tackles on defense, added one tackle on special teams and played a combined 49 snaps, as the Eagles rallied for a 21-17 win against the Chiefs on Monday night in Kansas City, Mo.

What's next:

* Philadelphia (9-1) will host the Bills (6-5) in another NFC-AFC crossover matchup at 3:25 p.m. Sunday.

Tommy DeVito

New York Giants

Looking back: The undrafted quarterback had his most impressive game in an NFL uniform with a record-setting performance in a 31-19 road win against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. DeVito, a New Jersey native, tossed three touchdown passes, including a perfectly delivered ball to running back Saquon Barkley

* in the right corner of the end zone for his first TD throw on Sunday. The one-year Illini quarterback went 18 of 26 passing for 246 yards. His five touchdown passes in his first two career starts are the most by any Giants quarterback in team history. This despite DeVito being sacked nine times by Washington, as New York put an end to a three-game losing streak.

What's next:

* New York (3-8) will welcome in the Patriots (2-8) for a noon kick on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Houston Texans

Looking back:

* The offensive lineman is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

What's next:

* The Texans (6-4) will host the Jaguars (7-3) at noon on Sunday.

Jake Hansen

Houston Texans

Looking back:

* The second-year linebacker was on the inactive list for Houston's 21-16 home victory against the Cardinals on Sunday.

What's next:

* Hansen, who has now missed back-to-back games with hamstring and hand injuries, will look to get healthy ahead of Sunday's noon kickoff for the Texans (6-4) in a crucial AFC South showdown against the Jaguars (7-3) at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Looking back:

* Hardee has been on injured reserve since Oct. 14 with an hamstring injury and is expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks.

Looking back: The cornerback returned to the starting 11 for Las Vegas defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and ended up with eight combined tackles, one pass defended and one forced fumble against Miami tight end Julian Hill

* while playing 69 of 70 defensive snaps in a 20-13 road loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.

What's next:

* The Raiders (5-6) will play the Chiefs (7-3) at 3:25 p.m. Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Detroit Lions

Looking back:

* The defensive back started at safety, had four total tackles and played 74 of 75 defensive snaps in a 31-26 home win by the Lions against the Bears on Sunday.

What's next:

* Detroit (8-2) will play its traditional Thanksgiving Day home game against the Packers (4-6) at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Ford Field in Detroit.

Ted Karras

Cincinnati Bengals

Looking back: Karras and his Cincinnati teammates had the weekend off after last Thursday night's 34-20 loss to the Ravens in Baltimore.

What's next: The Bengals (5-5) return to action after Thanksgiving with Karras and Co. having a new quarterback as Jake Browning takes over after Joe Burrow

Looking back: Kramer has boomeranged back to the Bears with Chicago adding the 25-year-old Hinsdale native to its practice squad after Kramer was released by the Cardinals last week. Kramer started the season with his hometown Bears.

What's next: The Bears (3-8) head up to Minneapolis to face the Vikings (6-5) for a 7:15 p.m. kick on Monday .

* Lowe and New England had their scheduled bye week.

What's next:
