Former Brooklyn Net Kevin Durant doesn’t fault Kyrie Irving for trade request
Phoenix Suns (and former Brooklyn Net) superstar Kevin Durant doesn’t fault Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving for requesting a trade from Brooklyn a few days before the NBA trade deadline. Durant gave his opinion on the Irving trade request on a new episode of “The ETCs” podcast that published on Tuesday.
According to multiple reports, Irving asked for a trade after both sides were unable to come to terms on a contract extension. At the time, once Irving’s trade request became public, teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns were interested in Irving’s services before the Dallas Mavericks joined the bidding war.
On Feb.5, two days after Irving’s trade demand rocked the NBA world, multiple reports said that Irving and Markieff Morris were traded to the Dallas Mavericks for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and draft picks. After that, Durant requested a trade and was subsequently dealt to the Phoenix Suns for Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and draft picks. Durant explained on the podcast why he didn’t fault Irving for wanting out of Brooklyn:
“I’m disappointed that we didn’t finish the season, but I also know we’re all our own separate entities. We all move and do the things that we want to do for our careers and I can’t fault somebody for doing that even though it might have been at our expense as a team. That’s who he (Irving) is and that’s what he wanted to do and I can’t have a problem with that.”
