Former Alabama hoops star reaches buyout with Thunder, signs with Warriors

Former Alabama forward JaMychal Green reached a contract buyout agreement with the Oklahoma City Thunder and signed with the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. Just a month ago, Green and a 2027 first-round draft pick were traded from the Denver Nuggets to the Thunder for Peyton Watson. Now, it appears that the native of Montgomery, Alabama is set to join the reigning NBA Champions in Golden State.

Green spent four seasons at Alabama. He started in 114 of the 123 games that he played in. In four seasons with the Tide, he averaged 13.5 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game and 1.2 assists per game. Green finished his career with the Tide as a unanimous Freshman All-American, as well as being named as a First-Team All-SEC selection during his senior season. Along with those honors, he also finished in Alabama’s top-15 all-time scoring list with 1,656 points scored.

In 2012, Green went undrafted. He would spend three seasons in the NBA’s G-League before making his NBA debut with the San Antonio Spurs on January 18, 2015.

Green will now be joining his sixth different team since making his debut in the NBA. He has spent time with the Spurs, Grizzlies, Clippers, Nuggets, Thunder and now the Warriors. Over the course of his nine-year career, he has averaged 7.9 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game and 0.9 assists per game. He has played primarily in a reserve role for each of the the teams that he has been on.

Last season, the Warriors won the NBA Championship. After losing some key pieces off the bench, the team has turned to signing JaMychal Green to provide a veteran presence and scoring off the bench.
