Football roundup: MACCRAY, Minneota will try again Saturday

Sep. 29—MAYNARD — The competition between MACCRAY and Minneota on Friday ended in a tie.

As lightning around the area forced the Wolverines and Vikings into MACCRAY West Elementary School, the two football squads faced off in games of rock-paper-scissors. MACCRAY won the first hand before the Vikings tied it back up.

The two teams even broke bread while waiting out the weather. Or, in this instance, MACCRAY players were sharing crackers and other treats with their opponents.

"Are you going to write about us sharing snacks?" Wolverines senior Charlie Delbosque asked.

The Wolverines and Vikings will have to wait before they can kick off for their Week 5 matchup. After waiting it out for 50 minutes, the game was postponed to 11 a.m. Saturday back in Maynard.

The Vikings are 4-0 and are the top-ranked team in Class A. The Wolverines enter the game at 2-2.

BOLD ran to a big win over Dawson-Boyd as it totaled 350 rushing yards on 44 carries at Olivia. The game ended after 10:30 p.m. due to inclement weather.

Hudson Vosika ran for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 15 carries. Kaden Fischer added 72 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Austin Kiecker had 32 yards and two touchdowns on 11 attempts.

Mathew Jacobs caught two passes for 36 yards and one touchdown for the Warriors.

BOLD plays Yellow Medicine East at 7 p.m. Friday at Granite Falls. Dawson-Boyd plays host to Canby at 7 p.m. Friday at Dawson.

Following a two-hour lightning delay, Lac qui Parle Valley and Canby resumed play in the second half of a Southwest North District game in Canby.

The Lancers led 7-6.

LQPV plays host to MACCRAY at 7 p.m. next Friday at Madison.

A Southwest-North matchup between Yellow Medicine East and Lakeview has been pushed to 4 p.m. Saturday due to inclement weather. Both teams are 1-3.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to win a battle of unbeatens against Upsala/Swanville Area

BBE rushed for 231 yards on 36 carries, led by Jack Lundberg. Lundberg had 18 rushes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Jaguars quarterback Lucas Dingmann completed 13 of 23 passes for 154 yards with three interceptions. His favorite target was Ryan Jensen, who caught five passes for 29 yards.

Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg put up all 37 of its points in the first half en route to a win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in Long Prairie.

Jett Olson scored three touchdowns on the ground, finishing with 93 yards on 11 carries. Trey Gunderson and Jared Cortez also had rushing TDs for the Fighting Saints. Hunter Kallstrom opened the scoring with a sack in the end zone for a safety.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory against West Central Area at Barrett.

The Falcons (2-3) are back in Grove City to play Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 7 p.m. next Friday. West Central now has a 2-3 record.

B/EV 20, Benson 14Browerville/Eagle Valley moved over the .500 mark with a victory over Benson at Browerville.

The Tigers are now 3-2.

St. Cloud Cathedral led Paynesville 14-0 with 8 minutes, 37 seconds left in the game before the Mid Northwest Three Rivers Blue District game was postponed at Clemens Field in Collegeville.

The game will resume at 5 p.m. Monday, according to St. Cloud Cathedral activities director Emmett Keenan.

Paynesville is 1-3 this season while Cathedral is 0-4.

Sauk Centre at Montevideo,postponedA Mid Northwest White District matchup between the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters and the Montevideo Thunder Hawks was postponed. The game will be resumed at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Hills-Beaver Creek ran for 252 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 44 carries in a dominating victory over Renville County West at Hills.

Beau Bakken opened up the game with a 10-yard touchdown to get the Patriots off on the right foot. He finished the game with 84 yards on 15 attempts, adding a pair of two-point conversions.

Sawyer Bosch ran for 53 yards on seven carries and James VandenBosch tacked on 40 more yards on two carries.

Jasen Jansen and Austin Rice had RCW's pair of touchdowns. Jansen caught a pass from Rice and found the end zone for a 41-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Rice punched in a 48-yard touchdown in the fourth.
