Football Outsiders names Andrew Thomas the Giants’ most underrated player

Every NFL team has their share over and underrated players. The folks at Football Outsiders recently compiled a list of each team’s most underrated player. For the New York Giants, it was third-year offensive tackle Andrew Thomas.

“Thomas is underrated by association,” the Outsiders wrote in the ESPN+ article. “He was part of one of the league’s worst offensive lines last year. Thomas allowed 2.5 sacks and blew 19 blocks, but that was a massive upgrade from the five and 42 that were given up in 2020. He also ranked in the top 10 for ESPN’s run block win rate. But, stuck on a unit that needed a ton of retooling this offseason, there wasn’t much talk surrounding his improvement.”

Thomas is considered an ascending player after logging in a much-improved sophomore campaign in 2021. He still has a ways to go to reach elite status and could even be swapped out for rookie Evan Neal at left tackle at some point, but all the indicators point towards continued improvement.

The Giants are building around Thomas and Neal and selected several linemen in the draft this year. Guard Shane Lemieux has re-entered the mix at left guard next to Thomas and veteran interior linemen Jon Feliciano and Mark Glowinski will start at center and right guard. Neal will get the inside track at right tackle.
