Football: Micah Mays' fast start sparks Benjamin against Jensen Beach
PALM BEACH GARDENS — Micah Mays’ senior season didn’t exactly start according to plan, but he wasted no time getting things on track Thursday.
Mays, a Wake Forest commit, caught touchdown passes on the first two drives of the game and the Buccaneers went on to dominate Jensen Beach 49-30.
“It felt great,” Mays said. “Me and (quarterback Jacob Cosby-Mosley) had a lot of connections. We went for two touchdowns — a slant and a post. It felt great getting a lead in the first quarter and we just continued from there.
“They were 4-0, we were 0-3. We knew they had that confidence coming in and we wanted to make sure we pushed through all four quarters. We knew we could pull the upset off.”
Benjamin coach Eric Kresser said there were more opportunities to get Mays the ball Thursday, but they wanted to make sure they got the run game going and other players were getting open.
“Micah’s a stud,” Kresser said. “We can’t throw to him every time, but he was open a lot — especially early on. We probably could have kept throwing to him. … Micah did a great job tonight.”

Mays is scheduled to be in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend to see the Demon Deacons take on Clemson.
He said he’s talking to Wake Forest coaches three to four times a week and remains 100 percent committed despite hearing from schools such as Miami, Florida State and Oregon.
“Wake is great,” Mays said. “It’s a great connection. I might be to more games during the season. I just want to continue to learn and grow with them.”
Know the name: Amaree Williams
Benjamin sophomore Amaree Williams, son of former NFL running back Moe Williams, is a player that colleges will be flocking to see in the spring.
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Williams showed what he can do on both sides of the ball, catching a pair of touchdown passes as well as recording a tackle for loss and knocking down a pass at the line of scrimmage as an edge rusher.
Williams said he’s enjoying the offensive side a little more right now. His offers include Auburn, Kentucky, USF and FAU.
Quick slants
Benjamin junior running back Chauncey Bowens, who committed to Florida on Sunday, started Thursday after being limited by injury the past two weeks. Bowens had several first-down runs in the first half.

Benjamin senior athlete Darrell Sweeting (UNC-Charlotte commit) scored two touchdowns Thursday. He returned a kick for a score in the first half and caught a touchdown pass in the second half.
Cosby-Mosley, a junior, finished with a career-best five touchdown passes and also impressed with his ability to move in the pocket and avoid pressure. He has played several positions for the Buccaneers, including safety, outside linebacker and slot receiver.
Jensen Beach junior running back Dennis Palmer Jr. scored twice — one rushing and one receiving. Palmer catches the ball well out of the backfield, makes guys miss and has good speed.
Jensen Beach senior quarterback Gio Cascione threw four touchdowns for the second consecutive week. Falcons coach Tim Caffey said multiple I-AA programs are showing an interest in Cascione.
