Florida State men's basketball falls short against Lipscomb
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Lipscomb's Will Pruitt scored 24 points on three made 3-point shots to lead the visiting Bisons to a 78-75 win over Florida State at the Donald L. Tucker Center. A.J. McGinnis and Owen McCormack scored 12 and 13 points respectively for the Bisons.
Jamir Watkins led the Seminoles with 19 points. Just behind him in scoring were Primo Spears and Darin Green Jr. with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
All three, as well as the rest of the line-up, put up a valiant effort until the final second of play. Florida State outscored Lipscomb 44-32 in the second half and rallied from a 21-point deficit in the second half to bring the game to a one score affair at the end.
"Typically, we play aggressively in the first half and then have a slow second," said Seminole Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "But today, I thought that we were much more aggressive in the second to match the aggressiveness that Lipscomb showed us in the first.
We need to play outside of our personalities so that we can be effective and successful. It's a mindset that you need to get in and we've showed moments of that during the season."
Despite the loss there was good news. Florida State saw the return of Cam Corhen to the court. Corhen sustained a toe injury during the 83-75 win in the championship game of the Sunshine Slam against No. 18 Colorado. He scored eight points and brought in eight rebounds during his return, as well as recording 19 minutes of play.
"I didn't realize that he (Cam) was in that much. He showed moments of the way he played before his injury and is looking good and will have a great impact moving forward," said Hamilton.
The Seminoles' defense forced nine turnovers and scored 10 points off turnovers over the course of the game.
The Seminoles will start the new year with a home game at the Tucker Center against ACC rival Georgia Tech on Wednesday, January 3, at 7:00 p.m.
