Florida basketball remains steady in ESPN’s BPI update

Todd Golden’s gang has taken a big step forward in recent games having now strung three-straight wins together — in Southeastern Conference play, no less — to give the program a bit of buoyancy after struggling over the first couple of months of the season. Now owners of a winning record against SEC competition with a 3-2 mark and a 10-7 record overall, the Gators appear to be focused on earning a spot in the Big Dance this March.

Prior to the home win over the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, ESPN’s Basketball Power Index had the Orange and Blue ranked No. 36. That ranking remained the same in Sunday’s updated numbers; the Gators had jumped up seven spots in their prior movement.

Next up for Florida is a rematch with Texas A&M Aggies — who rank No. 27 in the BPI — on the road in College Station on Wednesday, Jan. 18. TAMU snared a three-point win over the Gators on Jan. 4 in Gainesville but the Orange and Blue will have a chance for payback starting at 7 p.m. EST, with the game being broadcast by the SEC Network as well as the Gators IMG Sports Network.
