Florida Atlantic 61, Hofstra 57
Senior guard Greg Gantt scored 17 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to lead host Florida Atlantic to a comeback 61-57 victory over Hofstra in college basketball Tuesday afternoon.
The Owls (7-8) scored the first eight points to overcome a 36-29 halftime deficit but still needed a late rally before posting their second win in their last three games.
Visiting Hofstra (3-10) led by as many as seven points with under 8 minutes left in the game but couldn't hold onto the advantage.
The two teams were tied 57-57 when senior Jordan McCoy hit two free throws with 34.8 seconds left to give the Owls the lead for good.
Freshman Cavon Baker came up with a big steal on Hofstra's ensuing possession, but was able to make only one of two free throws with 14.1 seconds left, leaving the Pride a shot at a 3-pointer to tie.
After a timeout with 9.4 seconds remaining, the Pride's Taran Buie missed a 3-pointer and Richard Morrow rebounded for the Owls and was fouled. He made one of two free throws to clinch the victory.
Freshman Stefan Moody joined Gantt in double figures for the Owls with 16 points.
Buie and Stevie Meija led Hofstra in scoring with 13 points each.
