Fleetwood defeats Brandywine Heights in Berks II girls volleyball match

Sep. 27—Fleetwood earned a 3-1 victory over Brandywine Heights in a Berks Girls Volleyball League Division II match Tuesday at Fleetwood.

The Tigers won by game scores of 25-12, 25-27, 25-19 and 25-19.

"They were good," said Fleetwood assistant coach Brittany Troutman, who filled in for coach Keith Hallman, who was out of town. "The energy stayed up and they were positive through the whole thing. They tend to get down on themselves but after dropping that (second set), they decided they needed to change some things and they did that."

The Tigers (5-1, 5-2) got off to a quick start in the first set, going up 10-2 and dominating the rest of the way.

In the second set, it looked as if the Tigers would have the same result, but the Bullets (2-3, 2-3) had other plans.

With Fleetwood up 22-18, Brandywine scored six straight points to take the lead before holding on.

"It was a good moral victory," Bullets coach Steve Kline said. "I told them, 'We have to salvage something out of this.' We were on a little bit of a roll there. They put it together and came up big. That's the team I'm used to seeing."

For the Tigers, the second set came down to self-inflicted errors.

"It was nerves," Troutman said. "(Not) knowing their roles and the teams playing the game."

Fleetwood then regained its footing and went on to win the next two sets by six points apiece.

With their fifth win and about half the season remaining, the Tigers feel like they are in a good position in Berks II.

"We're doing good and plan to get better as the days go by," Troutman said.

For Fleetwood, Kylie Hallman had nine aces, 33 assists and nine digs, Sienna Geschwindt had nine kills, two aces and seven digs, Kyana Dorestan had eight kills, three aces and five digs, and Joanna Craft had 11 kills and a block.

As for the Bullets, they dipped under .500 but are looking to bounce back.

"We got the top of the schedule coming again," Kline said. "We were very successful at the beginning of the season. We have to solve a couple more problems. We have to come at these teams like Fleetwood and Schuylkill Valley to make counties."

For Brandywine, Jordan Trauger had 20 digs, four kills and an ace, Hope Kurtz had 23 digs and two assists, Greta Kline had 12 digs, 14 assists and six kills, and Ellis Kline had five digs and eight kills.
