Flagler College women's golf team eliminated in first round of NCAA Division II match play

The Flagler College women's golf team's hopes of an NCAA Division II national championship were quickly doused on Friday.

The Saints, who were the top seed in match play coming out of the 54-hole stroke play phase of the tournament at Orange County National in Winter Springs, lost to No. 8 St. Mary's (Texas) 3-1-1 int he first round of match medal play.

Flagler's season ends with its most successful showing in the Division II tournament under coach Santiago Cavanagh.

Flagler's only victory was by No. 1 player Stella Jelinek, who tied for third in stroke play to lead the Saints' four-shot victory. She easily beat Estelle Beck 70-79.

Flagler's Jordyn Hodgson tied Libby Kilbride 75-75 but it was downhill after that. Savannah Dupre of St. Mary's defeated Henriette Stranda 71-75, Rebecca Reed edged Sophie Wheeler 70-72 and Orla O'Leary defeated Nease graduate Shanya Arasu 79-82.
