Flag football regional finals: Clay tops White, downpour to reach FHSAA final eight

A downpour couldn't douse the cheer in Green Cove Springs.

Clay punched its ticket for the final eight, defeating Gateway Conference champion White 13-0 in a defensive struggle for the Florida High School Athletic Association's Region 2-1A flag football title on Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils (13-1) have allowed only two teams to score against them this year, allowing a total of 20 points in 14 games, and relied on their defense again to win amid heavy rains. They advance to a Friday road trip against Panhandle power Choctawhatchee, ranked in the state's top 10.

The Commanders close the year at 16-4.

Fletcher's best-ever season ended in the Panhandle, going down 31-13 to host Pace (15-5) in the Region 2-1A final. The Senators, who finished second in the Gateway Conference and ousted No. 1 seed Fleming Island last week, end at 12-4.
