Five UTEP football players named first-team All-Conference USA

For all of UTEP's on-field football struggles, the Miners were always loaded with talent and that showed up on the All-Conference USA team when five UTEP stars were named first-team all-conference.

Wide receiver Kelly Akharaiyi, who finished second in the league in receiving, offensive lineman Elijah Klein, linebacker Tyrice Knight, the national solo tackle leader, center Andrew Meyer and defensive end Maurice Westmoreland were tabbed All-Conference USA first team.

Defensive end Praise Amaewhule, running back Deion Hankins and punter Joshua Sloan garnered second-team honors as selected by the league’s nine head coaches, and announced by league officials on Tuesday.

Running back/punt returner Torrance Burgess Jr., safety Kobe Hylton, offensive lineman Justin Mayers and linebacker James Neal received honorable mention recognition.

Akharaiyi, Hankins, Hylton, Mayers and Neal are all in the transfer portal. Knight, Klein and Meyer have exhausted their eligibility.
