Five Boston Celtics players listed among HoopsHype assessment of NBA’s 100 best trade targets

The Boston Celtics are not likely to be making any blockbuster trades any time in the short term future given how well their current core is doing in the 2022 NBA Finals, but it is not out of the question that the team might try to consolidate a little talent in the 2022 offseason if their goal of hanging Banner 18 ends up falling short.

And if they do, they happen to be among the best-positioned teams in the league according to a new assessment of the top 100 potential trade targets around the NBA put together by the good folks at our sister site HoopsHype.

Let’s take a look at how they assessed the Celtics’ roster for potential trade value.

No. 86 - Derrick White

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

“White’s contributions in Boston’s Finals run have already made him exceed the value of the first-round pick and pick swap they gave up for him,” Writes HoopsHype.

“The Celtics might be more likely to offer him an extension down the line than trade him any time soon.”

No. 55 - Robert Williams III

Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

“Williams’ value is intriguing to gauge. On one hand, he’s been invaluable for the Celtics in their Finals run and will to earn just over the mid-level exception,” suggests HoopsHype.

“At the same time, his availability has been poor, and he’s missed time at the worst possible stretches. If he continues to improve and plays in enough games, he could be 20 spots or so higher on this list.”

No. 50 - Marcus Smart

“In 2020 there was some discourse if Smart’s trade value was worth the second overall pick in that year’s draft,” wrote HoopsHype.

“After a career year where he won Defensive Player of the Year and helped lead the Celtics to the Finals, it wouldn’t be outrageous for a team to offer a high lottery pick for him.”

No. 18 - Jaylen Brown

“Brown is one the best secondary stars in the league and still has room to potentially become a great No. 1 option,” offers HoopsHype.

“He’s on track not only to command maximum contract offers league-wide but could also qualify for a supermax extension should he earn All-NBA honors next season.”

No. 4 - Jayson Tatum

Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

“The promise Tatum showed in his rookie season has finally formed into a consistent superstar,” suggests HoopsHype.

“He has proven he can be the number one guy on a championship-contending team when he has the right support group around him. There’s no trade package that could possibly get Boston’s interest for him after the Finals run they had.”
