The First-Ever Winter-Themed Margaritaville Hotel is Coming to Ski Country—Here’s Where

We love a good ski beach, especially one with blue skies, warm sun, and tropical drinks, but one resort company is taking the concept to a whole new level. Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville franchise is testing the (not so tropical) waters and opening its first ski property.

The resort hotel will be at the base of Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe, and will be the fourth Margaritaville property in the western United States. The resort plans to open later this year.

“We are so excited to share this iconic brand with one of the premier year-round adventure and ski destinations in the United States,” said Steve Contos, the Executive Vice President of Davidson Resorts, a third-party group managing the property.”With the property's opening, we invite travelers to experience the escapism of Margaritaville in a whole new setting, whether they're seeking an action-packed vacation or a relaxing getaway."

A few things set this mountain-based Margaritaville apart from its kin, including decor that will cater to skiers as opposed to beachgoers. Features include an emerald pool inspired by Lake Tahoe’s iconic Emerald Bay (still flip-flop shaped, of course), ski paraphernalia replacing surfboards, an indoor pool, and of course, a main fireplace in the lobby perfect for gathering for apres-ski.

The site of the future tropical-drink oasis is currently the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, which will undergo a "multi-million dollar, top-to-bottom renovation." The property currently has 399 suites (some with private fireplaces), and all with either lake or mountain views, making the future Margaritaville a year-round destination.

Part of the renovation will include plenty of Margaritaville-staple food options as well as favorite watering holes such as the License to Chill Bar, LandShark Bar & Grill, Joe Merchant's (a coffee and snack bar), Come Monday Cafe (breakfast restaurant with a chef-curated menu), and the special occasion worthy WB Prime Steak and Seafood.

So, if sand is the one thing missing from your ski trips, then you may have a new resort to add to the list. Just remember, even if the lifts close at 4 p.m., it's always 5' o clock somewhere.

To keep up with the property and to have a firsthand scoop on early bookings, guests and Jimmy Buffet fans alike can follow the resort on Instagram or online at margaritavilleresortlaketahoe.com.
