'Everybody's good, dawg:' Fire at Dolphins star Tyreek Hill's home chases him from practice

SOUTHWEST RANCHES — Tyreek Hill bolted from Dolphins practice Wednesday afternoon upon learning his home in western Broward County had caught fire.

Multiple crews from Davie Fire Rescue responded and controlled the blaze after an unspecified amount of time.

All people and pets escaped safely.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said the fire was contained within one room, but there hadn’t been enough time to assess the extent of the damage or whether Hill and his family could return home Wednesday evening.

As Rosenhaus spoke, the flashing lights of emergency vehicles could still be seen about a quarter-mile away, just inside the gated community.

Moments earlier, Hill was seen driving out of the complex in a truck. Spotting a reporter, he lowered his window, smiled and said: “Go home, man. Everybody’s good, dawg.”

Rosenhaus said it was too early to know the cause of the fire or which room was affected.

“He and his family are handling it with as much poise as you could hope,” Rosenhaus said. “He was very grateful to the firefighters and everyone that did indeed save his home.”

Video shot from a helicopter by WSVN-Channel 7, the Miami Fox affiliate, showed Hill comforting family members outside the home as firefighters fought to contain the blaze. Hill wore a walking boot to protect his injured left ankle.

The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m.

“He was obviously in the middle of practice when this happened,” Rosenhaus said. “And so it's a shocking development, but he was very poised and he was thankful that his family was good and that no one was injured.”

Hill had been with teammates preparing for Sunday’s game against the visiting Buffalo Bills to determine the AFC East champion. Rosenhaus said the fire will not affect Hill’s preparation for the game.

Earlier, WSVN video showed massive smoke billowing from the roof of the home. The station reported that the blaze was upgraded to a two-alarm fire, with additional crews expected.

Property records show the house was bought in 2022 for $6.9 million.

“My guess is that he will be back at some point,” Rosenhaus said. “Maybe not today, maybe tomorrow. We just have to allow people to do their job.”
