Final Michigan high school football AP rankings, where Northern Michigan teams end 2023

With the high school football playoff field set around the state of Michigan, rankings don’t necessarily serve a huge purpose at this point.

But, there’s no doubt it’s nice to be recognized for a standout season on the gridiron.

With that, the Associated Press of statewide voters have released the final batch of Michigan AP High School Football Rankings for the 2023 season.

Around Northern Michigan, a total of nine programs across multiple divisions closed out the ’23 season within the polls, including a couple – like Ogemaw Heights, Gaylord and St. Ignace – wrapping up ranked for the first time in a long time. Something to truly hang their hat on.

Within Division 3, Gaylord finished out a 9-0 season and earned its highest final ranking since a 2002 9-0 campaign. The Blue Devils end the year ranked No. 3 in D3.

Charlevoix finished up a fourth consecutive eight-win season and the Division 7 voters awarded the 8-1 Rayders a No. 7 ranking to close the season.

Hudson Vollmer (2), Troy Nickel (10) and the rest of the Charlevoix football team wrap up the 2023 regular season as one of the top 10 teams within Division 7, riding a four-year stretch of eight-win campaigns.

Ogemaw then finished up its best regular season since an 11-win 2012 campaign, finishing up 8-1 and ranked No. 7 in Division 5.

In Division 1 of the 8-player rankings, major movement came near the top, as a tie between Bridgman and Pickford was snapped when St. Ignace upset the Panthers in Week 9.

Bridgman – ineligible for the postseason – moved into the lone No. 1 spot, while St. Ignace jumped up to No. 2, though gained a pair of first place votes. Pickford then dropped to No. 4 to finish the season.

Inland Lakes also jumped up to No. 5 to close out the season within Division 1 of 8-player.

Also within Northern Michigan, Kingsley finished No. 4 in Division and Gaylord St. Mary was also an honorable mention team in Division 1 of the 8-player ranks, despite not entering the playoffs with a 6-3 record.
