Final Erie County Top Performers list for District 10 winter sports: March 7-9

The Erie Times-News, for the final time during District 10's winter sports season, salutes some of Erie County's top performers over this week.

It's really more for the week's Thursday-Saturday portion, as that span covered the PIAA wrestling tournament at Hershey and the start of the PIAA basketball tournaments.

The Times-News will resume its Top Performers feature in mid-April, when District 10's spring sports are in full bloom:

Boys wrestling

Cyrus Hurd, North East: The junior was the fifth-place medalist for the 133-pound weight class at the PIAA Class 2A tournament in Hershey.

Story Buchanan, Girard: The senior, in his final match for the YellowJackets, won the fifth-place match at 160 during the PIAA 2A tournament.

Boys basketball

Kenny Godoy, Girard: The YellowJackets beat Derry Area 74-65 in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A tournament with the significant help of his 24 points.

Tyler Grove, McDowell: His team-high 16 points led balanced scoring for the Trojans, who eliminated Baldwin 61-45 in a PIAA Class 6A first-rounder at Pittsburgh.

Girls basketball

Riley Sholes, Fairview: Her three field goals, which included two 3-pointers, highlighted the eight points she recorded during the Tigers' low-scoring 33-26 victory against Knoch in a PIAA Class 4A tournament opener.

Jayden McBride, Cathedral Prep

Jayden McBride, Cathedral Prep: The Georgetown University recruit led the Ramblers with 18 points when they eliminated Trinity 53-29 in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A tournament.

Makayla Presser-Palmer, Northwestern: Her mammoth 36-point performance led the Wildcats to a 67-47 victory over Keystone Oaks in a PIAA Class 3A opener at Albion.

Olivia Kulyk, Mercyhurst Prep: The New Jersey Institute of Technology recruit, in her final home game for the Lakers, scored 20 points when they edged Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 40-37 in a PIAA 3A first-rounder.

Girls bowling

Taylor Kretz, McDowell: She helped the Trojans qualify as a team for this month's state tournament, and also advanced as an individual, out of region competition at Bowlero Pittsburgh.
