Feldhaus formally introduced as head coach on Monday

Apr. 22—A new era of Missouri Western women's basketball began on Monday as Ashton Feldhaus was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history.

Monday's introductory press conference saw a filled Hall of Fame room inside of Spratt Stadium, as Feldhaus felt the support of Western faithful, the current women's basketball roster and Western brass, led by president Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy and director of athletics Andy Carter.

"It's just great people in every corner, and then you look at the turnout on a day like today, and it does nothing but solidify that this was the best place for me to be," Feldhaus said.

Feldhaus spent the last five years at Eckerd College in Florida, which made the NCAA Women's Division II Tournament each year Feldhaus served on the staff. Missouri Western women's basketball has had its share of success itself with two NCAA Tournament trips in three years and an MIAA regular season title this past season. Feldhaus acknowledged what the program has done in recent memory and doesn't plan on stopping the momentum.

"We're going to win more, and that is the goal," Feldhaus said. "And I do not shy away from that. It's something that I fully accept and I am ready to go."

This is the second major hiring for director of athletics Andy Carter in his short time at Missouri Western. Carter was also responsible for the hiring of head football coach Tyler Fenwick, which has turned out to be a success for the university in its most popular sport. He mentioned during the introductory press conference Monday that the process of hiring coaches isn't easy, but it is exciting.

"Having somebody with her energy level and confidence level, her preparedness and her time that's ready for this... you put it in the algorithm and it just really solves the problem," Carter said.
