FAMU softball earns walk-off win to beat Pine Bluff for first SWAC Tournament win, advances

GULFPORT, MS ― The Florida A&M Rattlers needed eight innings to finish the job, but secured the 2-1 extra-innings win, walking it off on a single off the bat of junior Kiauna Watson to claim victory over the UAPB Lady Lions Tuesday.

Freshman Zoryana Hughes (14-3) entered in the circle in the second inning and picked up the win for FAMU (24-18). The right-hander went seven shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.

In the batter's box, the Rattlers were led by senior Nyah Morgan, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk and an RBI.

The Rattlers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. FAMU got an RBI single from Morgan, scoring Watson from second base.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth, when FAMU walked it off on a run-scoring single off the bat of Watson.

FAMU golf are in first place after day two at PGA Works

JACKSONVILLE –– FAMU golf had another strong day, finishing in first place after the team had a +14, 590 after day two.

The Rattlers had strong performances from Taylor Bell (69), Marcus Taylor (70), and Patrick Mwendapole (73). Bell (first), Mwendapole (second), and Taylor (fourth) enter the final day in the top five of the leaderboard.The Rattlers will enter the final day with a 21-stroke lead.
