Eye of the storm: Wednesday's Fantastic Five MetroWest, Milford-area high school athletes

They stayed dry. Well, dry enough to play. Wednesday's Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford-area high school athletes led their teams to victory in soggy conditions or the relative safety of a gym.

Without further ado, here's who stood out May 8:

LUIS FERRARAS, Marlborough baseball

He homered on a 2-for-3 day, as the Panthers beat Fitchburg 14-3. Ferraras drove in five runs, scored two and stole a base for Marlborough. Dylan Romano (RBI) and Michael Benway (double) each scored two runs and stole two bases. Marlborough's Eric Kneissler added two RBIs and touched home once.

TIMMY KEARNEY, Lincoln-Sudbury boys volleyball

He distributed 34 assists with two kills in a 3-1 win over Boston Latin. Ben Gottlieb led the Warriors (7-5) with 10 kills and three aces. L-S' Ryan Heberlig put down eight kills, while Sebastian D'Ambrosio (two aces) and Tim Langille (ace) added seven each.

ZACH MANTEGANI, Bellingham boys volleyball

He put down 22 kills in a 3-1 win over Norwood. Mantegani also had eight digs and four aces in the 25-11, 26-24, 22-25, 25-19 victory. Aidan Gibbs distributed 39 assists with six digs for the Blackhawks (6-6, 6-3 Tri-Valley League). Bellingham's Jack Davidson contributed nine kills, three aces and three digs.

CATHERINE SEAY, Marlborough softball

She brought home seven runs on a 3-for-4 day in a 16-4 win over Fitchburg. Seay homered and scored three runs for Panthers (3-9, 3-5 Mid-Wach C). Marlborough's Erin Seder was 3-for-4 with three runs, and Carolina Burgos scored three runs.

ADDISEN TRELLA, Tri-County girls lacrosse

She scored two goals and had multiple forced turnovers in an 8-5 win over Bristol Plymouth. Trella also led the Cougars (4-6, 3-4 Mayflower) in draw controls, while Ava Gill and Ava Gillespie put away two goals each.

Baseball

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 7, Waltham 1: The Warriors trailed 1-0 after the top of the seventh but loaded the bases with no outs. Andrew Kushinsky tied the game with an RBI single, then Jake Haarde put L-S (11-3, 6-1 Dual County League) ahead for good. Sam Shuckerow picked up his first varsity win in relief after not allowing a hit over two innings with a strikeout. L-S' Matt Mahoney struck out 12 over five innings against just three hits. Cooper Tarantino had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors, while Liam Curley drove in two runs and scored one.

Girls lacrosse

MARLBOROUGH 12, Shepherd Hill 11: Ella Hobin scored four goals and brought in six draw controls for the Panthers (3-9, 3-5 Mid-Wach C). Marlborough's Maggie Horn and Kyra Duane each put in a hat trick.
