Ex-Lions CB Justin Coleman will sign with the Dolphins

Justin Coleman didn’t spend much time on the unemployment line. The former Lions cornerback has agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal.

Coleman goes from being the highest-paid slot corner in the league when the Lions signed him prior to the 2019 season to making no more than $2.75 million. He was due to make $11 million in 2021 before the Lions parted ways with him earlier this month.

Coleman played two seasons in Detroit, serving as the team’s primary slot corner early before kicking outside more frequently. The decline in his performance was not coincidental. He projects to start as the Dolphins’ slot corner under head coach Brian Flores, who deploys a similar scheme and mindset to former Lions head coach Matt Patricia.
