Etowah County sports Hall of Fame announces 2024 class includes Dudley brothers and Patrick Nix

The Etowah County Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2024 class and it includes some major legends from the area.

The class will be inducted to the hall during a banquet at the Venue at Coosa Landing on Saturday, June 8. It will start at 6 p.m. but a meet and greet will happen beforehand.

The class is lead by Patrick Nix, the former Etowah star and father of NFL and former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix. Nix currently is the head coach of Central-Phenix City who won the Class 7A state football title in 2023. At Etowah, Nix earned All-state honors in 1990 and 1991. As a coach he is a three-time state champion and played at Auburn from 1992-95.

The other headliner of the class are the Dudley brothers who will all be inducted this year. Keith Dudley starred at Gadsden High from 1986-88, earning varsity letters in three sports. He earned all-state honors in basketball and helped lead Gadsden to the 1987 basketball state semifinal. James Dudley played at Gadsden High from 1977-79 earning an all-state honorable mention honors in basketball and later helped Jacksonville State to the 1984 Division II National Championship. Anthony Dudley played at Gadsden High and played for Wimp Sanderson at Alabama, helping them make three straight Sweet Sixteens and later played professionally overseas. Dudley helped Gadsden win the 1983 basketball title and earned all-state honors.

The other inductees are Anne Renfrow who was a local equestrian, winning the Amateur Ladies Open World Grand Championship four times. She is joined in the class by her sister Alburta Lowe. She won the Amateur Celebration in 1968 and 1969. Steve Copeland rounds out the class for his impressive Gadsden High career. He later played for Georgia Tech, earning All-SEC honors in 1965.
