ESPN projects QB Derek Carr will sign extension with Raiders this offseason

In a recent piece by several ESPN insiders, they took a look at the quarterback market going into the 2022 offseason. It should be a wild one as there are at least a dozen teams that will have a new quarterback going in the 2022 season.

Could the Raiders be one of those teams in the quarterback market? Or will they stick with Derek Carr and give him an extension? Here is what ESPN’s Dan Graziano had to say about Carr and his future:

“(Josh) McDaniels wasn’t going to hop back into head coaching in a spot where he couldn’t win right away. With all that went wrong in Denver and then him flaking out on the Colts a couple of years ago, I don’t see how McDaniels’ head-coaching career could weather a rebuild. I’m betting the Raiders keep (Derek) Carr unless they can get Rodgers, Wilson or Watson … or Tom Brady?!”

The insiders expanded on their thoughts on Carr, saying the Raiders would be wise to extend him for one or two more years with nearly all of his contract being guaranteed. In fact, that seems like almost a given at this point considering the public support for Carr by the organization.

But as Graziano mentioned, the only way the Raiders could move on from Carr is if they received a huge offer for him and had another quarterback already lined up, like Wilson or Rodgers. Otherwise, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to move on from Carr.

With so many teams looking for quarterbacks this offseason, the Raiders would be wise to lock up their franchise passer and start building around him.
