ESPN’s Paul Finebaum predicts the SEC ‘Game of the Year’ for 2024

With the additions of Texas and Oklahoma to the Southeastern Conference in 2024, the entire format of the conference has been restructured. The SEC has done away with the East and West divisions as they want to make for more frequent matchups among the programs with 16 teams now in the SEC.

The new format of the SEC will include some of the best matchups of the entire college football season. The Longhorns and Aggies rivalry will be restored while also getting new matchups like Tennessee and LSU facing off against the Sooners. While most of the attention will be on Texas and Oklahoma in their first season in the conference, the SEC game of the season will without a doubt be Georgia at Alabama according to ESPN’s Paul Finebaum.

Four of their last five matchups have come in either the SEC championship or the National Title with the two programs being ranked No. 1 and 2 in the country heading into the 2023 season. We obviously don’t know how the season will play out yet, but it is safe to assume that both squads will be among the best, if not the best, again come 2024.

Despite the Bulldogs being back-to-back national champions, Saban still has Georgia and Kirby Smart’s numbers. Saban is 7-1 against UGA since taking over at Alabama and 4-1 against Smart. Unfortunately, his lone loss came to Georgia in the 2022 National Championship game after losing both Jameson Williams and John Metchie to injuries. Yet, people forget that Alabama took them to town in the SEC championship game the same season.
