Each week through early November, the Erie Times-News will highlight Erie County's notable athletes during District 10's fall sports season.
Those who have excelled from Sept. 18-23 are:
Football
Austin Sherwood, Union City: He contributed on offense (touchdown pass) and defense (interception) during the Bears’ 20-7 victory vs. Saegertown.
Tyshawn Jones, Harbor Creek: The Huskies never trailed in their 48-7 Region 5 win at Girard because of his 75- and 68-yard touchdown runs on their first two plays from scrimmage.
Jacob Zietz, General McLane: The junior’s seven receptions for 138 yards also included three for touchdowns when the Lancers defeated the Corry Beavers 41-15 at Linden Field.
Jackson Humes, North East: The quarterback for the Grapepickers threw the pass that accounted for their first touchdown and ran for a two-point conversion after their second when they beat the Fort LeBoeuf Bison 14-7 at Ted Miller Stadium.
Boys soccer
Gio Masone, General McLane: He scored twice for the Lancers, who beat Mercyhurst Prep 3-2 in overtime.
Hamza Elsayed, Erie High: He scored the Royals’ fourth goal after assisting on their first three during their 5-0 victory vs. Corry.
Will Vanderweele, North East: His two-goal, three-assist performance highlighted the Grapepickers’ 9-0 rout of Fort LeBoeuf.
Cameron Dunbar, Cathedral Prep: His header in the second half provided the Ramblers with an insurance goal en route to their 3-1 victory vs. the Erie High Royals at Dollinger Field.
Joel Noyes, Iroquois: He was a factor (one goal and two assists) in half of the goals the Braves recorded en route to their 6-1 victory vs. Saegertown.
Braden Kibbe, Seneca: His goal off a free kick was the difference for the Bobcats when they beat Oil City 1-0.
Jackson Chiocco, Fairview: His two goals comprised half the offense for the Tigers, who beat the rival Girard YellowJackets 4-1.
Jake Levy, McDowell: He scored and assisted twice for the Trojans, who blanked the Meadville Bulldogs 6-0.
Jon Kavelish, General McLane: He was the goalkeeper of record for the Lancers for their scoreless match with Harbor Creek.
Ryan Humphreys, Harbor Creek: He was responsible for the General McLane’s lack of goals when the Lancers and Huskies played their scoreless match.
Girls soccer
Brooklyn DiRaimo, Cathedral Prep: She recorded a hat trick for the Ramblers during their 6-0 shutout of the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers. ... Her second-half goal held up as the game-winner for the Ramblers when they began this week with a 1-0 victory vs. the Harbor Creek Huskies.
Jenna Popowski, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison blanked Fairview 6-0 with her feet responsible for three goals and two assists.
Ayiana Thomson, North East: She accounted for the Grapepickers’ goal when they tied Conneaut (Pennsylvania) 1-all after two overtime periods.
Autumn Waid, Seneca: Her natural hat trick highlighted the Bobcats’ 8-0 win against Maplewood that also left them 8-0 overall.
Remy Suroviec, General McLane: Her first half goal held up as the lone offense when the Lancers won 1-0 against Harbor Creek.
Peyton Koma, Girard: Her penalty kick provided insurance for the YellowJackets when they won 3-1 at Cambridge Springs.
Kennedy Butcher, Erie High: She scored the lone goal during the Royals’ 1-0 victory vs. the Oil City Oilers.
Molly Taylor, Mercyhurst Prep: She scored three goals and assisted on a fourth for the Lakers during their 9-0 shutout of Iroquois.
Grace Faulkner, McDowell: Her goal and assist helped the Trojans top Warren 4-0.
Ashley Froess, Fort LeBoeuf: She scored twice and also shared a shutout in net for the Bison when they routed Greenville 13-0.
Annie Thayer, Fairview: Her goal was the lone offense for the Tigers, who beat General McLane 1-0.
Evelyn Bish, North East: She recorded all but one goal for the Grapepickers when they won 5-1 against the Titusville Rockets.

Girls tennis
Anna Poranski, Cathedral Prep: The Ramblers edged the rival McDowell Trojans 3-2 with help from her 6-1, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles.
Vivian Liu, Fairview: She didn’t lose a game in her No. 1 singles match, which also helped the Tigers blank Erie High 5-0. ... Earlier in the week, her 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles was part of Fairview's 4-1 Region 2 dual win against the McDowell Trojans.
Lina Warrier, McDowell: The Trojans blanked Boardman (Ohio) 5-0 with the aid of her 6-3, 6-2 victory in the non-region dual’s No. 1 singles match.
Finleigh Handzel, Cathedral Prep: She won her No. 2 singles match with a 10-4 tiebreaker that also helped the host Ramblers defeat Buffalo’s Nichols School 4-1. ... Her week began with Prep's easiest victory (6-1, 6-0) when it beat Mercyhurst Prep 4-1 at Frontier Park’s courts.
Enisa Siljkovic, Erie High: The Royals’ No. 1 singles starter won in straight sets during their 5-0 non-region shutout of Sharon.
Boys cross country
Isaac Zacks, Seneca: His low time of 10 minutes, 38 seconds helped the Bobcats beat Eisenhower in a dual meet.
Paxton Zinz, Corry: The freshman, with a time of 11:42.59, was the fastest runner when the Bears won a rivalry dual against Union City.
Ethan Webb, General McLane: The Lancers beat Girard 16-45 in part from his first-place time of 15:29.28.
Girls cross country
Mackenzie Nelson, Seneca: She posted the best time (22 minutes, 9 seconds) for a dual the Bobcats won against the Eisenhower Knights.
Isabella Williams, General McLane: Her low time of 19:05.24 helped the Lancers defeat the Girard YellowJackets 21-35.
Jordan Fox, Corry: The Bears beat Union City 15-44 in part with her first-place time of 13:25.
Girls volleyball
Addy Greene, Fairview: Her 12 digs and 30 assists out of the backcourt were notable when the Tigers beat the Union City Bears in four sets.
Katelynn Olmstead, Fort LeBoeuf: The Bison swept Girard in part from her team-high eight kills. ... Previous matches were her double-double of 16 kills and 17 digs, plus four aces and two blocked shots, when LeBoeuf prevailed in five sets against Fairview, and a team-high six kills, two digs and three blocked shots when the team beat the rival General McLane Lancers in three sets.
Ana Fetzner, McDowell: Her team-high nine kills contributed to the Trojans’ 25-13, 25-12, 25-7 sweep of Erie High.
Allison Sawyer, Corry: Her team-high eight kills helped the Beavers beat the rival Union City Bears in straight sets.
Ava Guzowski, Seneca: Her team-high nine assists were part of the Bobcats’ three-set sweep of the Northwestern Wildcats.
Hannah Smith, Harbor Creek: She had a team-high 14 kills when the Huskies swept Erie High.
Halle Guentner, McDowell: She recorded nine assists, seven aces and five digs for the Trojans, who defeated the Northwestern Wildcats in straight sets.
Boys golf
Cooper Wierzchowski, Cathedral Prep: He was the medalist (2-under par 70) for the final Region 6 mega match, held at Corry’s North Hills Golf Course.
Anthony LaBoda, Fairview: His co-medalist round of 3-over par 75 in a mega match at Beechwood Golf Course also contributed to the Tigers topping District 10’s Region 5 standings.
Leyton Hassenplug, North East: He shot a 75 at Beechwood Golf Course, low enough for co-medalist honors in a Region 5 mega match.
Girls golf
Ava Tomcho, Union City: She was a member of foursome that won the Bears Cup Championship, a Region 2 team tournament held at Union City Country Club.
Anna Swan, North East: The Oral Roberts University recruit aced Union City Country Club’s fourth hole during the Bears Cup Championship. ... Her varsity week began as a co-medalist (36) for a Region 2 mega match held at Waterford’s Fox Run Golf Course.
Alexis Marsh, McDowell: Her nine-hole medalist round of 37 in a mega match at J.C. Martin Golf Course also helped the Trojans clinch first place in District 10’s Region 3 standings.
Cora Hirz, Fairview: She was the nine-hole, co-medalist (36) when the Tigers clinched first place in Region 2 with their mega match victory at Waterford’s Fox Run Golf Course.
