These high school athletes are among Erie County's Top Performers for Aug. 28-Sept. 2

Top Performers is an Erie Times-News and GoErie.com feature that highlights Erie County's best varsity athletic performances on a weekly basis.

Here are some notable results over late August and early September:

Football

Blayze Myers, McDowell: He was an efficient 13-of-21 passing for 138 yards, no interceptions and four touchdowns when the Trojans won 52-20 at Barberton (Ohio).

Paul Johnson, Mercyhurst Prep: He completed 10-of-13 pass attempts for 197 yards and rushed for another 43 when the Lakers defeated Slippery Rock 49-7.

Aiden Lesik, Fort LeBoeuf: His two second-half touchdown runs, including a five-yarder in the fourth quarter, helped the Bison to their 38-28 road victory vs. the rival General McLane Lancers.

Dajoure Hollingsworth, Cathedral Prep: A 79-yard run on the Ramblers’ initial play from scrimmage was the first of his five touchdowns during their 47-36 road victory over Buffalo’s Canisius High School.

Owen Kerns, Union City: His opening touchdown run set the tone for the Bears, who beat Kennedy Catholic 63-40.

Michael Gennuso, Fairview: His 11 points as a kicker (three field goals and two PATs) were the most by a Tiger at that position when they beat the Harbor Creek Huskies 23-13.

Jackson Humes, North East: A 7-for-7, 275-yard, four-touchdown performance during the Grapepickers’ 42-2 win at Girard left him the most prolific quarterback in the program’s history.

Boys soccer

Braxton Johnson, Girard: His four goals accounted for more than half of the YellowJackets’ offense during their 7-1 win over Eisenhower.

Will Vanderweele, North East: He assisted twice for the Grapepickers, who beat Meadville 4-2.

Colton Wuerstle, Harbor Creek: The freshman recorded his initial varsity goal during the Huskies’ 2-0 victory vs. the Warren Dragons.

Noah Handzel, Cathedral Prep: His hat trick highlighted the Ramblers’ season opener, a 5-0 win over Cleveland’s Brecksville-Broadview Heights.

Carter Sindlinger, General McLane: He scored twice and assisted on a third goal for the Lancers, who defeated Sharon 5-0.

Josiah ZaSada, Seneca: His goal in double overtime gave the Bobcats a dramatic 2-1 victory vs. the Iroquois Braves.

Noah Panic, Girard: He was involved in each score (two goals and one assist) when the YellowJackets beat Fort LeBoeuf 3-0.

Jake Levy, McDowell: He scored twice for the Trojans when they defeated General McLane 3-1.

Ryan Humphreys, Harbor Creek: The goalkeeper for the Huskies helped blank Fairview 1-0.

Santiago Camara, Mercyhurst Prep: He was a factor in each of the Lakers' goals when they beat North East 3-2.

Bonanne Taabu, Erie High: He was the goalkeeper of record when the Royals blanked Hickory 2-0.

Joel Morey, North East: His two goals and two assists highlighted the Grapepickers’ 5-1 win against the Seneca Bobcats.

Mava Mboko, Iroquois: He recorded a hat trick for the Braves, who beat West Middlesex 5-1.

Austin Armstrong, Harbor Creek: The Huskies blanked Greenville 7-0 in large part because of his three goals and one assist.

Ahmed Agag, McDowell: He scored once and assisted three times for the Trojans, who won 6-0 at Hickory.

Girls soccer

Bella Brower, Girard: She was in net for the YellowJackets when they won 1-0 at Wilmington.

Ayiana Thomson, North East: She was directly (two goals) and indirectly (two assists) responsible for all the offense in the Grapepickers’ 4-2 victory vs. Meadville.

Bella Infantino, Harbor Creek: She scored two goals and assisted on two others for the Huskies, who dominated Franklin 9-0.

Remy Suroviec, General McLane: Her hat trick was part of the Lancers’ 7-0 win at Hickory.

Madelyn Brosig, Fairview: The Tigers’ 5-0 home win vs. Wilmington included her two goals.

Autumn Waid, Seneca: She was responsible for two of the Bobcats’ three second-half goals when they blanked Girard 3-0.

Emily Boyd, North East: Her two goals represented one-fourth of the Grapepickers’ offense en route to their 8-0 rout of Erie High.

Ashley Froess, Fort LeBoeuf: Her hat trick, plus an assist on a fourth goal, highlighted a 9-1 win for the Bison against Mercyhurst Prep.

Maddie Soudan, Girard: Her two goals comprised half of the YellowJackets’ offense during their 4-1 road victory vs. North East.

Hannah Lindenberger, Fairview: She was involved in each score (one goal and three assists) of the Tigers’ 4-0 victory over Warren.

Lena Bookhamer, General McLane: Her feet accounted for one goal and assists on three others when the Lancers blanked the visiting Conneaut Eagles at Linden Field.

Olivia Pikiewicz, Seneca: She scored the Bobcats’ second and third goals and assisted on their fourth when they won 4-1 vs. Slippery Rock at Bob Diffenbacher Field.

Boys cross country

Kamden Kramer, McDowell: He was an individual (15 minutes, 52. 14 seconds) and team gold medalist with the Trojans for their 49th annual meet at Brown’s Farm.

Kam Skelton, Mercyhurst Prep: The freshman, in his varsity debut, was the silver medalist (16:36) for the boys race when the Lakers competed at Titusville’s Rocket Invitational.

Ethan Webb, General McLane: His fifth-place time of 16:19.3 was the fastest for the Lancers, who were team champions for Lock Haven’s Bear Mountain Invitational.

Girls cross country

Hayden Palmer, McDowell: Her silver medal time of 19 minutes, 38.62 seconds was the fastest for the Trojans, who were team titlists for their 49th annual meet at Brown’s Farm.

Anne-Catherine Brown, Cathedral Prep: Her silver medal time of 20:05.2 was the fastest for the Ramblers, who were team titlists for the Marty Uher Vulcans Invitational at California, Pennsylvania.

Boys golf

Morgan Greico, Union City: His round of 84 was the lowest for the Bears when they won a region mega match held at Wattsburg’s Scenic Heights Golf Course.

Tegan Rucks, Fairview: Not only was he the individual medalist (78) for a Region 5 mega match at North East’s Lake View Country Club, but also the lowest for the first-place Tigers.

Girls golf

Alexis Marsh, McDowell: Her nine-hole medalist round of 35 also helped the Trojans win a region mega match at J.C. Martin Golf Course.

Anna Swan, North East: She had the low nine-hole round (37) for a Region 2 mega match held at North East’s Lake View Country Club.

Cora Hirz, Fairview: Her nine-hole round of 39 was the lowest for the Tigers when they won a Region 2 mega match at North East’s Lake View Country Club.

Girls tennis

Sophia Glance, Cathedral Prep: Her 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles also helped the Ramblers shut out Ohio’s Magnificat Blue Streak 5-0.

Hannah Nichols, Fairview: Her 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles contributed to the Tigers’ 5-0 shutout of the McDowell Trojans. ... Fairview also beat Sharon 5-0 with the aid of her 6-0, 6-1 victory in the teams’ No. 1 singles match.

Vivian Liu, Fairview: Her 6-1, 6-1 No. 1 singles win was part of the Tigers’ 4-1 non-region dual victory over New York’s Nichols School.

Mackenzie Bruce, Erie High: The Royals’ No. 3 singles starter was among their 6-0, 6-0 victors when they dominated Conneaut (Ohio) 5-0.

Enisa Siljkovic, Erie High: Her 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 1 singles match also helped the Royals shut out Oil City 5-0 in their season-opening dual.

Girls volleyball

Cadence Jones, North East: She recorded her 1,000th career kill during the Grapepickers’ appearance in Fort LeBoeuf’s tournament.

Talon King, Harbor Creek: She totaled 14 assists over the Huskies' five-set victory vs. Cathedral Prep.

Halle Guetner, McDowell: Her 10 kills, 14 digs and 19 assists were vital to the Trojans’ five-set victory vs. the Fairview Tigers.

Addica Sperry, Mercyhurst Prep: Her triple-double (10 kills, 10 digs and 12 aces) highlighted the Lakers’ three-set sweep of the Erie High Royals. ... Earlier, she had a double-double (12 kills and 13 digs) when they swept West Middlesex 25-19, 25-17, 25-14 in their season opener.

Grace Allen, Corry: The freshman, in her varsity debut at home, recorded six kills, six digs and seven assists during the Beavers’ three-set sweep of Greenville.

Cathryn Reynolds, Union City: She recorded a team-high eight kills, plus eight digs and three aces, as part of the Bears' 25-19, 25-12, 25-11 victory over Erie High.

Grace Sanfilippo, North East: She totaled 30 assists for the Grapepickers, who beat Harbor Creek in straight sets.

Julia Seth, Mercyhurst Prep: She totaled 26 assists and six digs from the backline for the Lakers, who swept Eisenhower 25-14, 25-21, 25-18.

Morgan Wilhelm, Seneca: Her nine kills were the most for the Bobcats when they defeated Northwestern in four sets.

Kate Granger, Fairview: She recorded nine kills, the most for the Tigers during their 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 win against the General McLane Lancers.

Alyssa Tingley, Union City: She totaled 18 assists from the backcourt and three aces while serving when the Bears beat Youngsville 25-22, 25-14, 25-14.

Boys water polo

Drew Brown, Cathedral Prep: His four goals helped the Ramblers rally for an 11-9 dual win at McDowell.

Girls water polo

Claire Gebhardt, McDowell: Her eight goals nearly matched Cathedral Prep’s total when the Trojans beat their rivals 17-9.
