Epic blast helps Notre Dame softball advance

If you missed the fourth inning of Friday afternoon’s NCAA Tournament game between Notre Dame and Miami (Ohio) then you missed a lot.

The Red Hawks scored twice in the top half of the inning to score the game’s first runs, both of which came off Payton Tidd. Tidd was replaced by Alexis Holloway who went the final 3.1 innings without allowing a run.

Notre Dame answered back in a big way in the bottom half of the fifth as left fielder Leea Hanks hit a three-run shot to give the Irish their first and only runs of the game.

Fortunately, it was enough as Notre Dame held on for a 3-2 victory. In the other game of the double-elimination Lexington quadrant on Friday, Kentucky bested Northwestern.

The Irish move on to play Kentucky at 12 p.m. ET Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday without a blemish while the loser will play the winner of Miami and Northwestern in an elimination game Sunday.
