New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning would rather be playing in Super Bowl LI Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston. He is doing the next best thing, offering advice to the quarterback of the team representing the NFC.

The Atlanta Falcons face the New England Patriots for all the marbles. This is the second Super Bowl in Falcons franchise history, losing Super Bowl XXXIII eighteen years ago today to the Denver Broncos. The Patriots will play in the final game of the NFL season for a league record ninth time and the second time in three years.

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan hopes to cap off an MVP caliber season by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. He reached out to Manning, who knows a little something about playing against and defeating the Patriots on Super Bowl Sunday.

“I think his advice was, ‘You guys know yourselves, and you know what to do’,” Ryan said to a group of reporters on the inaugural Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday. “At the end of the day, that’s probably some of the best advice you can get is to trust what we do and trust our process and who we are and how we do things. And I think we’ll be ready to go.”

Manning defeated the Patriots in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI as underdogs despite a 1-2 regular season record against them. The Patriots are favored to beat the Falcons and capture their fifth Lombardi Trophy. Ryan is 0-2 lifetime against the Patriots in the regular season.

Eli’s big brother Peyton also had advice for the quarterback known as Matty Ice. He beat the Patriots in three AFC Championship Games despite a 6-13 regular season record against Brady, Belichick, et al.

“It’s one of those things—trust what you do and trust your process,” Ryan said of the advice Peyton gave him. “Handle some of the things that you need to handle that go along with this game early. Get that stuff out of the way. And I’ve certainly done that.”
