Edgewater, Seminole, Lake Mary lead pack in Sentinel Super 16 rankings

Edgewater strengthened its hold at No. 1 and Oviedo moved into the Sentinel Super 16 high school football rankings following convincing road wins last week.

The Eagles (5-0) recorded 12 tackles-for-loss and scored four times in the first half while winning 27-0 at then-No. 2 Apopka (3-1).

Oviedo (3-2) amassed 571 yards of offense during a 35-7 win at Timber Creek (1-4).

“I was really proud of our defense for not giving up any points in that second half,” Edgewater coach Cameron Duke said. “I thought it was a great team win for us.”

Apopka dropped four spots to No. 6 ahead of a challenging Class 4M District 2 game Friday at No. 2 Sanford Seminole (4-1). The Florida High School Athletic Association district schedule resumes in Week 6 for most teams.

Edgewater hosts No. 12 Wekiva (3-2) in 3M District 3.

No. 15 Oviedo, which prevailed 42-35 against previously-unbeaten Palm Bay Heritage (4-1) two weeks ago, is the favorite to repeat as champion in 3M District 2. The Lions go on the road to face East River (1-4).

Dr. Phillips (3-2) is up to No. 13 this week after winning 20-3 vs. then-No. 16 Boone (2-3).

The Super 16 consists of schools in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties. Last week’s ranking and win-loss records are included in parentheses.
