Edgewater rounds out regular season atop Sentinel Super 16 football rankings

Undefeated regular seasons in back-to-back years keeps Edgewater at No. 1 in the Sentinel Super 16 rankings entering the FHSAA playoffs.

The Eagles have extended their regular-season win streak to 28 dating to a loss at Venice in September 2021.

Edgewater and Sanford Seminole, No. 2 in the Super 16, host playoff games Friday. No. 3 Lake Mary, which turned in an impressive shutout at previously unbeaten Daytona Beach Mainland, opens on the road at Boone.

No. 5 Jones travels to No. 11 Oviedo, where the winner of that contest likely advances to play at Edgewater in the second round.

No. 4 DeLand could get a rematch at No. 9 Orange City University if both record wins vs. Volusia County foes this week.

No. 6 Olympia hosts a district rematch in its opener against rival Dr. Phillips, which dropped one spot to No. 12 in the rankings.

The final Sentinel Super 16 rankings of 2023 will be released following the FHSAA state playoffs in December.

The Super 16 consists of schools in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties. Last week’s ranking and win-loss records are included in parentheses.
