Delta 14, New Castle 8

Delta won its fifth game of the season after losing for the first time last week. New Castle lost, conversely, its fifth straight game.

It was a defensive battle as the Eagles and Trojans went yard-for-yard with a couple of turnovers to begin the game, but neither side was able to score.

However, that changed when New Castle’s Tyson Lewis scored on a quarterback keeper to put the Trojans up. New Castle then opted to go for a two-point conversion, and a completed pass gave it an 8-0 lead early in the second quarter.

After the New Castle score, the game went back into a defensive battle as both teams forced the other to punt.

Delta got a drive going later in the quarter after Bronson Edwards connected with D’Amare Hood on a long pass to set up shop at the New Castle 12-yard line. But New Castle responded by forcing a turnover-on-downs at its own 3-yard line.

New Castle never got things rolling thereafter and took an 8-0 lead into halftime, and the Trojans' offense continued to struggle as Delta’s defense stood tall and forced a three-and-out to begin the second half.

The Eagles eventually got on the board when Edwards connected with Hood on a touchdown pass to trail just 8-6 after failing the two-point attempt.

New Castle then put a drive together going late in the third frame on a deep pass before the quarter ended. As play resumed in the fourth quarter, the Eagles defense forced the Trojans to turnover the ball on downs.

Delta proceeded to march right down the field as Kaiden Bond gave the Eagles the lead on a rushing touchdown and a completed two-point conversion to put Delta in front 14-8, which ultimately secured the victory for the Eagles.
