Eagles' Mike Wallace about to collect bonus thanks to strange contract clause

The tweet from ESPN’s Field Yates on Friday morning seemed like a mistake.

“Source: Eagles WR Mike Wallace, who is listed on the roster at 200 pounds, will earn a massive $585,000 incentive if he weighs less than 250 pounds on Monday when the offseason program begins. Easy money.”

Did Yates make a mistake? A typo?

This guy below is in danger of being over 250 pounds?

Wallace is listed at 6-feet, 200 pounds on the Eagles’ official roster, and Wallace’s page on pro-football-reference.com has him listed as a lithe 180 pounds.

Not every roster is completely factual – the New England Patriots listed nose tackle Vince Wilfork as being 325 pounds for years, and that wasn’t quite accurate – but there’s no way Wallace is in any danger of being over 250 pounds come Monday.

But the 31-year-old Wallace, who is beginning his first season with Philadelphia, seems to think it’s pretty funny:

Bottom line: this really is going to be some easy money for the ninth-year veteran.
