Eagles 2023 schedule release: NFC Championship game rematch vs. 49ers, Brock Purdy set

The Eagles should get a chance to see 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy for a bit longer this time after knocking him out of the NFC Championship game last Jan. 29.

That's because they'll play host to the 49ers on Dec. 3 at 4:25 p.m., FOX Sports announced late Wednesday night. The game was announced ahead of the NFL's 2023 schedule release Thursday at 8 p.m.

Purdy, the last pick in the 2022 draft who began last season as the third-string quarterback, had won 7 straight games heading into that NFC Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field. But Haason Reddick sacked him in the first quarter, causing a fumble. Purdy left the game with an injured elbow, only to return in the second half when his backup suffered a concussion.

But Purdy was unable to throw the ball in the second half, and the Eagles cruised to a 31-7 win.

Purdy has since had surgery on his elbow. He's expected to be the 49ers starter when he's cleared to play, but it's not known yet if that'll be in time for Week 1 in September. But Purdy should have plenty of time to recover for the game against the Eagles.

By December 3, both teams should be fighting for a playoff berth as the 49ers have a top defense as do the Eagles. And Purdy will have top weapons to throw to such as tight end George Kittle, receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Christian McCaffery. The Eagles, of course, have quarterback Jalen Hurts throwing to DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, along with the running back tandem of D'Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny.
