Duck fans show love and appreciation to Ty Thompson after QB enters transfer portal
Unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall for a few hours, a few days, a few weeks — and a few years, if we’re being completely honest. On Sunday morning, Oregon Ducks quarterback Ty Thompson announced he would enter the transfer portal and end his time in Eugene.
After three seasons with the team, Thompson saw yet another transfer portal QB brought in over the weekend and jump him on the depth chart. That move led to his decision to find a program that will give him a shot at the QB1 spot.
The relationship between Oregon fans and Thompson is a strong one. While there weren’t a ton of opportunities for No. 13 to showcase his skills on the field, it was the loyalty he put on display year after year that endeared him to Duck fans. He chose to stick it out in Eugene and opted for hard work over an easier path elsewhere. When the news became official that Thompson was leaving Eugene, Duck fans expressed an outpouring of love and appreciation on social media for what he gave to the program.

When a lot is wrong with college football, Ty Thompson represents what's right.
He didn't jump ship when things got tough. He chose loyalty and hard work.
He now leaves Eugene for good, and should be endlessly celebrated. https://t.co/uIy9osohbh

I don’t care who you are, I won't entertain any criticism towards Ty. He may not be the guy this year but his unwavering dedication to this progrum for over three years deserves recognition. I'll be cheering for him no matter what path he takes.

Any Oregon fan who isn’t rooting for Ty Thompson to succeed isn’t a real fan as far as I’m concerned. He’s the ultimate teammate and someone you want in your locker room! He will succeed if he finds the right offense!

Ty is a winner. In life, you won’t always get the job you want. Won’t get the significant other you want. You’ll come up short on the offer on your dream home. Loved ones will die. It’s about pushing forward and keeping your North Star. He will always do that. Mad respect, Ty. https://t.co/OXthT6cks7

Feel bad for players like this that commit, stay with the team, do all the work required to earn the starting job…and never get a fair shot. Portal era effects players in ways you don’t realize https://t.co/PUIVBagotH

Dude has given everything to Oregon.
I don’t blame Dan for bringing in DG. And I don’t blame Ty for leaving, if he does.
But I hate that Ty did it 100% the right way, was on the edge of his dream, and a causality of the way cfb works today.
Still rooting for him, BIG time 🦆 https://t.co/3tU4opnFNQ pic.twitter.com/mqWeQUXkU5
