Dual-threat DaSilva: Who is the Taunton Daily Gazette Football Player of the Week

TAUNTON— Week 3 of the high school football season is in the books in the Greater Taunton area.

Taunton (2-1) went up 14-0 before succumbing to a three-touchdown comeback effort by Middleboro in an 18-14 loss to the Sachems. Bridgewater-Raynham (0-3) put up its highest point total of the season, even leading at the half, before ultimately falling 31-21 to Barnstable. Bristol-Plymouth (1-2) recovered a fumble and returned it for a touchdown before Mashpee put up four unanswered touchdowns to win 26-7.

The lone local victory from Week 3 belonged to Dighton-Rehoboth (1-2), as the Falcons ground out a 21-14 win over Oliver Ames thanks to a well-balanced offensive attack and solid defensive effort.

The Taunton Daily Gazette Football Player of the Week for Week 2 is Bristol-Plymouth junior tight end/defensive end Nick Sabino, receiving 61% of the vote while Dighton-Rehoboth senior quarterback Joel DaSilva came in second with 16% and Dighton-Rehoboth junior wide receiver/cornerback Evan Thibert received 8% to finish third.

Byrne ran in a 4-yard touchdown against Barnstable.

Joel DaSilva, Dighton-Rehoboth

DaSilva went 7-of-13 passing for 113 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while also running the ball 6 times for 45 yards against Oliver Ames.

David Diaz-Tavares, Dighton-Rehoboth

Diaz-Tavares had 11 carries for 69 yards as well as a 27-yard touchdown catch against Oliver Ames.

Ryan Donovan, Bristol-Plymouth

Donovan recovered a fumble on defense and returned it for a touchdown against Mashpee.

Sean Grady, Dighton-Rehoboth

Grady recovered a fumble against Oliver Ames.

Kevin Gousie Jr., Dighton-Rehoboth

Gousie had 9 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown as well as a 29-yard touchdown catch against Oliver Ames.

Brian Joanis, Taunton

Joanis made an interception against Middleboro.

Dylan Keenan, Taunton

Keenan went 12-of-18 passing for 111 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against Middleboro.

Ryan Keenan, Taunton

Keenan had seven tackles against Middleboro.

Owen King, Bridgewater-Raynham

King threw an 8-yard touchdown pass against Barnstable.

Thaniel LaBrie, Bristol-Plymouth

LaBrie had 14 carries for 72 yards, fumbling twice, while also hauling in a 48-yard catch against Mashpee.

Xavier Landry, Dighton-Rehoboth

Landry recorded a sack against Oliver Ames.

Jose Melendez, Taunton

Melendez recovered a fumble against Middleboro.

William Porter, Bridgewater-Raynham

Porter caught an 8-yard touchdown against Barnstable.

Cam St. James, Dighton-Rehoboth

St. James had seven tackles against Oliver Ames.

Charles Swensen, Bridgewater-Raynham

Swensen had a 1-yard rushing touchdown against Barnstable.

Aiden Thurber, Dighton-Rehoboth

Thurber recorded a sack against Oliver Ames.

Jose Touron, Taunton

Touron had seven catches for 62 yards and a touchdown as well as 6 carries for 14 yards and a touchdown while also having fumbled and recovered a fumble against Middleboro.

Tim Zibrida, Dighton-Rehoboth

Zibrida recovered a fumble against Oliver Ames.
